Cathedral High School, established in 1925, is an all-boys Catholic college preparatory institution in El Paso, Texas. It is rooted in the rich, three-century-old Lasallian tradition, Cathedral High School upholds the five core principles of Faith in the Presence of God, Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, Respect for All Persons, Quality Education, and Inclusive Community.
The Cathedral High School website (cathedral-elpaso.org) serves as a gateway to explore this legacy of excellence. Visitors can find detailed information about admissions, and academic programs, and stay connected with the latest news and events from the Cathedral community.
The website is powered by: edlio (https://edlio.com/)
My responsibilities for this project include prototyping, conducting user research by examining other Lasallian private schools, and designing the new website.
The Cathedral High School website is currently disorganized, with a significant amount of outdated content and clutter. The page management system lacks proper categorization, with the majority of pages lumped under 'Miscellaneous,' making it challenging to find and update relevant information. Furthermore, the visuals on the site, including pictures, are old and do not reflect the school's current identity. A comprehensive update is required to improve the website's structure, content management, and visual appeal, ensuring it provides a modern and user-friendly experience for all visitors.
The goal of this project is to redesign Cathedral High School's website by implementing a new and intuitive navigation menu, updating content and visuals, including the latest school logo, and reorganizing the page management system for easy content editing. The primary objective is to create a user-friendly experience for parents, students, and faculty, allowing them to quickly and efficiently find the information they need without unnecessary searching.
As the Director of Admissions at Cathedral High School for the past two years, I have gained valuable insights into the challenges and frustrations faced by our community with our current website. Through numerous interactions, I have pinpointed specific problems that necessitate this redesign. The primary audience for this website includes parents, students, faculty, and administration.
In today's digital age, accessibility and user-friendliness are crucial. Everything is done online, and our website needs to reflect that. The goal of this redesign is to ensure that everyone within the Cathedral community has easy access to the information they need. Over time, we’ve received various complaints about the website's usability, design, and structure, which have prompted this initiative to create a more intuitive and effective online experience.
This redesign is focused on creating a platform that is not only visually appealing but also functional and accessible for all users.
