For this design challenge, I’m tasked with conceptualizing an expansion for Toontown Rewritten that enhances the game experience while staying within the constraints of a part-time volunteer development team and a 12-month timeline. My goal is to create an engaging and impactful feature that adds value to the game, whether it’s through a new Playground, Gag Track, or a smaller-scale addition like new ToonTasks. The expansion should be both fun and feasible to develop, using limited resources and time. By focusing on what’s most meaningful to the Toontown Rewritten community, I aim to create a project that balances creativity with practicality to improve the game for players of all ages.
My goal is to create a unique and extraordinary feature—whether it’s a new Playground, Gag Track, or a smaller-scale addition like ToonTasks—that not only excites the current Toontown Rewritten community but also captures the attention of new players, inspiring them to join the fun. This expansion will focus on delivering something fresh and meaningful that balances creativity with practicality, making the game more engaging and enjoyable for players of all ages. I hope to spark excitement, build anticipation, and contribute to the lasting legacy of Toontown Rewritten.

Toontown Rewritten (TTR) is a free, fan-made MMORPG that revives Disney's retired Toontown Online. Independently developed by volunteers, TTR operates without ads, subscriptions, or revenue, staying true to the original game’s whimsical spirit.
Players create customizable Toons—quirky cartoon characters who defend Toontown from the corporate robot Cogs using playful "gags" as weapons. Since its Alpha launch in 2013, TTR has grown through Beta phases and regular updates, maintaining a vibrant community and keeping the magic of Toontown alive for fans of all ages.
In Toontown Rewritten, Toons are the lively and comedic heroes of the game. These quirky cartoon characters thrive on fun and mischief, using their arsenal of playful gags to thwart the Cogs’ attempts to transform Toontown into a drab, corporate wasteland.
When players create their Toon, they can customize its gender, color, and outfit to reflect their unique style. After completing the creation process, their Toon begins its adventure in the welcoming area of Tutorial Terrace, where they get introduced to the basics of Toontown’s wacky world.
Gags are the comedic weapons Toons use to take down Cogs. New Toons start with basic Throw and Squirt gags, like Cupcake and Squirting Flower, but can unlock stronger gags by earning skill points and completing ToonTasks to gain new gag tracks. Gags can be purchased at Goofy’s Gag Shop for one jellybean each, except for powerful level 7 gags. Completing specific ToonTasks also upgrades a Toon's gag pouch, eventually allowing them to carry up to 80 gags.
Cogs are the primary villains in Toontown Rewritten, relentless corporate robots determined to turn Toontown into a dull, business-driven dystopia. Organized into corporate ladders of eight ranks, including a boss Cog, they range in levels from 1 to 12. Cogs use various attacks to drain Toons' Laff, attempting to sap their joy. The stronger the Cog, the tougher their defenses and the harder their attacks hit. However, Cogs can't handle humor—they burst into pieces when defeated by the Toons' clever gags.
ToonTasks are quests given by NPCs that Toons complete to earn rewards. Objectives can include defeating Cogs, delivering items, fishing, or other activities. Some tasks, like "Just for Fun!" ToonTasks, are optional and can be deleted anytime, while limited-time ToonTasks are only available during special events.
Toontown Rewritten has system requirements for Windows, macOS, and Linux to ensure the best gameplay experience. These details can be found on the "Play" page of the official website.
Jellybeans, Jellybeans, and more Jellybeans 😄
The Toontown map, found in the Shticker Book, provides an overview of all known locations within the Toontown universe. Toons can teleport to any unlocked area, with teleport access to playgrounds earned by completing specific ToonTasks and access to Cog headquarters unlocked by reaching levels 12-13 in the corresponding Cog Disguise.
